Terms of service
1. Seller

2. Scope
These terms are addressed to purchases, through our online shop, of the book 50 Machines, machines to restart civilization and live well: 336 pages, full color, in English or Spanish. The editions are the standard paperback, the Premium Edition, the cloth edition (limited edition of 500 unnumbered copies in total across both languages) and the ebook (EPUB). The price of each edition is the price shown on the product page and includes VAT for EU delivery (see §5). Printed editions are printed on demand by Lulu's printing network (France, the UK, the US and other countries), which prints and ships each copy. We ship to every destination offered at checkout. They also govern the "Machine of the Month" digital subscription (a monthly plate by email, €2 per month), with the specific rules in §15, which prevail for it. They are addressed to consumers and businesses; where mandatory consumer law grants you more rights, those rights prevail.
3. Ordering
You can buy as a guest. Before paying you will see the product, its main features (format, binding, pages, language), the total price including VAT, shipping costs and estimated delivery. You can correct your details at any step. Orders are placed in English or Spanish.
4. Ebook and right of withdrawal
You may withdraw from your ebook purchase within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason, as set out in the refund policy.
5. Prices
Prices are in euros. For delivery in Spain (mainland and Balearic Islands) they include VAT, for both printed books and the ebook. Elsewhere in the EU, the VAT of the delivery country applies, and checkout shows the final price including VAT before you pay. Outside the EU (for example the US, the UK, Switzerland, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla) prices may be shown without Spanish VAT, and the destination country may charge duties, import taxes (VAT, IGIC, IPSI, sales tax) or customs clearance fees, payable by the recipient. Shipping costs depend on destination and service and are shown at checkout before you pay. Book prices in Spain are fixed under Law 10/2007.
6. Payment
Payment is taken through Shopify's checkout (Shopify International Ltd.) and its payment providers. We do not see or store your full card details.
7. Delivery
Delivery takes approx. 2 weeks and no later than 30 calendar days from the order.
8. Retention of title
The goods remain our property until paid in full.
9. Right of withdrawal
Consumers may withdraw within 14 days without giving reasons. See the withdrawal policy and form. In addition to email or letter, you can withdraw online using the "Withdraw from contract here" button in the shop footer and in your order emails. Once you confirm it, we will send you an acknowledgement of receipt by email without delay, with the date and time of your withdrawal.
10. Legal guarantee
You have the legal guarantee of conformity under the Spanish consumer law (TRLGDCU): 3 years from delivery. If a book arrives damaged or misprinted, write to us with a photo and we will replace or refund it at no cost.
11. Liability
The book and guides are educational and historical, not engineering instructions. Read the safety notice. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it, in particular for death or personal injury caused by our fault, for fraud or gross negligence, or under product liability law.
12. Complaints and disputes
Write to direccion@quantumhive.es; we answer within one month. Complaint forms (hojas de reclamaciones) are available on request. You may also go to the consumer arbitration system or the consumer authorities of your place of residence.
13. Governing law
Spanish law. For consumers, the courts of their place of residence; this does not remove the protection given by the mandatory law of their country of residence in the EU.
14. Safety
Some machines in the book involve pressure, high temperatures, electricity, toxic gases or corrosive chemicals. Building them is at your own risk and must follow local law. See the safety notice.
15. "Machine of the Month" subscription
1. Subject. Monthly supply by email of digital content: the high-resolution, print-ready plate of one machine from the book 50 Machines, in English or Spanish as you choose. The email also links to that machine's illustrated guide, freely available on 50machines.com, which is not part of what you pay for.
2. Price and renewal. €2 per month, VAT included for EU consumers (local taxes may apply outside the EU). You are charged automatically every month on the same date until you cancel. We will notify you of any price change at least 30 days in advance, and you may cancel before it applies.
3. Duration and end. Open-ended. When all available machines have been sent, the subscription ends and charges stop, and we will tell you by email.
4. Cancellation. Any time from your account, from the link in every email, or by writing to direccion@quantumhive.es. It takes effect at the end of the period already paid, with no penalty. The current month is not refunded, except in the case of withdrawal.
5. Withdrawal. 14 days from sign-up, using the "Withdraw from contract here" button (shop footer and emails) or any clear statement. If you withdraw, we refund your first payment within 14 days at the latest, by the same means of payment.
6. Licence. Personal, non-commercial use. You may print the plates for yourself, but not resell, redistribute or publish them.
7. Safety. The guides are educational and historical, not certified engineering instructions. Some machines involve pressure, heat, electricity, toxic gases (e.g. ammonia) or corrosive substances; building them is your responsibility and must comply with the law. The liability and safety section of these Terms applies.
